about

RN008
The second volume of Random Split Numbers comes out. A cross section of the best Italian experimental artists, released in 5 volumes.
Each artist has been given the space of a single side C50 cassette, in which they could express their music freely, without compromise.
Volume 2 is entrusted to Gattobus and Bartolomeo Sailer. The idea of a trip characterizes this second volume: Life for Gattobus and Interstellar for Sailer. Proietti guide the listener through the spiral of life, along a path of multiple cycles until the spiritual essence is rich enough to trascend the flesh. In music terms this was conceived into a succession of gentle rhythmic harmonic progressions, artfully modulated.
For Bartolomeo instead, the cue is the sound design of action movies, to create amazing foyer in spaceships, paradoxical and unknown enviroments.
He wants to give musical dignity to this underground work, creating a fully digital song where he imagines the passage near a pulsar star. The 2 sides of this second volume are one the opposite of the other: modular vs. Digital, melody vs. Noise, Yin vs. Yang.

This is the third volume of Random Numbers Split Series. A cross-section of the Italian experimental scene in 5 volumes. Each artist is assigned to one side of a C50 tape, in which express his music without compromises. Volume 3 is entrusted to Somec and Von Tesla.
Somec gives us 20 minutes of raw recordings of a mythical machine, a Buchla 208, which stops its technology to the 70s. All recorded live with the aid of a computer. In less technical terms, Napolis work can be summarized in a handful of eccentric hallucinations - pretentious recreations for quirky programmers - polished fiction. NWH2O is a long journey through interstellar landscapes and claustrophobic extraterrestrial rhythms, transmissions from other times and places.
Von Tesla presents a more romantic vision of his world, divided into a triptych, Touch / Enter / Flesh. Dreaming representation of a meeting, where the romantic tones are obfuscated by a drop of LSD, which changes the colors, shapes and volumes. A slow movement toward the transformation of the body, an approach to transhumanism that mingles technology in the body, a genesis of Tetzuo (the man of steel / Tetzuo Shima) of the years 10.

The latest issue of the Split Series wants to be a bridge to future Random Numbers publications. In this case the two artists involved instead of dividing the two sides of the cassette decided to merge their productions into a collaboration.
Started in 2014, the collaboration between Attilio Novellino and Collin McKelvey produced two albums: Hypehunt and Mètaphisiques Cannibales. Sons of the same approach, shared by similar sound sources and similar compositional techniques, the two works find in the different suggestions around which they are made, the specificity that allows them to grasp its essence, autonomous and complementary at the same time.
Where in Mètaphisiques Cannibales is staged "the perverse theater where the other is always represented and invented", or otherwise altered through determined cultural devices that do not allow real knowledge, Hypehunt pays attention to the contrasts existing between the different speeds through which you can travel through the temporal dimension, live the contemporary music space. Using elements that conform to dominant aesthetics, work in accordance with some of the mainstream paradigms, is an artistic choice or a self-defense mechanism used to cope with the hierarchical and competitive dynamics of a more saturated and crowded underground music space? Acoustic instruments, analog synthesizers, modular synthesizers, tape recordings
magnetic and found-sounds have been used in composite compositing, mixing and editing typical of concrete music, combined, through different steps with electronic processing and granular synthesis. Hypehunt follows the path that ideally combines the experimental music properly mentioned, the one that dates back to the 1950s, to contemporary electronics, the debut of instances and stylistic figures and cultures matured at the turn of the eighties and nineties, well perceivable in the disc.

Hypercube comes back whit a great new album. Based on a Emotiv EPOC Brain to Computer interface, this is a masterpiece of mental music.
"Conceptualising the mental roof of objectified entities and the exponential downgrade of digitalised existence."

On the 19th of October 2021 Random Numbers Invited Bear Bones, Lay Low and Polonius to play at the Circolo Dev. The show was recorded and we decided to share it on a cassette.
Side A is a shamanic potion cooked by improvisation artist Bear Bones, Lay Low. 45 minutes of slow brewing of hypnotic sounds originated from tapes, synths and various effects. A meditating process that slowly morphs into a tribal dance that ends with estatic liberation.
On side B 37 minutes of the magical improvisation of Polonius, that after a slow spelling brings you in to his world of samples and repetition, in a schizophrenic representation of modern world. A live composed on a laptop and a keyboard where every sample is played live.
Only a limited number of copies available on tape to bring back the original sound of the performance.
